Triangle pose
This pose is a beginner’s pose and is split into extended triangle pose and revolved triangle pose.
Extended triangle pose
Stand in tadasana with your feet close to each other and your arms resting at the side of your body. Exhale and jump slightly in such a way that your feet are 4feet apart from each other. Balance your body and open your shoulder blades. Open your hands wide and parallel to the floor, palms facing downwards.
Now open your left foot and thigh outward. This should align your heels in such a way that they in right angled position to each other. Exhale and without bending your waist, bend your hip joint directly on to the extended foot. Balance by pressing the other leg and its heel firmly to the ground.
Extend the sides of your torso and with your hand, hold your shin or ankles. The other extended arm should be facing the ceiling. Keep your head in neutral position.
Remain in this position for 30-60 seconds and repeat from the start with the other leg.
Benefits of the extended triangle pose
- The triangle pose stretches the legs – thighs knees and ankles.
- It stretches the hips, groins, hamstrings, claves, shoulders, chest and spine.
- It stimulates the abdominal organs.
- Therapeutically it relieves stress, improves digestion, and relieves symptoms of menopause, backache, flat feet, infertility and sciatica. It is also great for women in the second trimester of their pregnancy.
Revolved triangle pose
This pose is similar to the extended triangle pose except that the body or the arm facing the same side is not bent directly on the leg.
In an extended pose, the right arm is brought to rest directly on to the right leg. But in a revolved pose, the body is twisted a little to bring the right arm at the back of the left foot.
The same rules apply to both in terms of the remaining parts of the body.
Benefits of the revolved triangle pose.
- Similar benefits apply to both the poses. However, this pose opens the chest to improve breathing and a sense of balance. It relieves mild back pain.
- Therapeutically, it fights constipation and digestive problems, Asthma, lower back ache and sciatica.
This is an easy pose for beginners, but if unable to bring the body together, they can practice it bit by bit.
