Corpse pose is the most relaxing pose in yoga. It can be practiced at any level and it is usually recommended that you relax between poses by returning to this pose.
This pose can be performed from any seating pose.
The body should be relaxed and in a neutral position. You can start by sitting in a cross legged position or in a seated position with your knees bent and feet on the floor.
Corpse Pose Yoga
It you are starting from the lotus pose, lean back on your forearms with your fingers pointing towards your body (like you are relaxing in a lawn). Slightly lift your pelvis of the floor and push it towards the tailbone and then rest it back on the floor. This is optional.
Slowly extend your right leg whilst inhaling, and then the left leg. Once you have stretched your legs, slowly release and relax your lower body. Keep your legs in such a way that they are shoulder width apart. Your heels should be facing each other and your toes should be pointing outwards.
Now slowly extend your back towards the floor using your arms for support. Lie down on the floor.
Now stretch your back, your neck and your skull. They should be stretched or expanded to the maximum. Your back should be stretched and relaxing on the floor. Your shoulder blades should be released on to the floor.
Relax every part of your body and ease all the strain in your muscles. sIt is important with this pose that you relax your mind along with your body. Release the stress and anxiety off your mind.
Relax in this pose for 30-60 seconds. To release from the pose, turn your body to one side and first bring your torso up and then your head. Do not apply any pressure on your ribcage while returning to the seating position.
